Pears … (Price: £10.00)
The French have been responsible for producing many of the varieties that we have available today; they seemed to have adopted the pear just as we adopted the apple. Pears have not been as popular as apples, often due to their lack of keeping qualities and fruit texture, but it has to be said that some of the flavours are quite outstanding. If like me, you do not like the gritty texture of the pear, then try a Concorde; it has the flavour without the grit ! The fruit of the pear is delicious when poached in red wine and cinnamon; it is also very good for you, since it is lower in sugar, higher in vitamins. Nice to know that there is still something that is good for you ! Our pears are grown on Quince “C” rootstock giving a tree of around 12’.

Peach & Nectarine …(Price: £12.00)
The origins of the peach and nectarine lay in China, where they have been appreciated for their fine fruits for more than 3000 years. The nectarine is the same as a peach except that is has a smoother skin. Requiring a warm position, they fruit regularly, particularly when trained as a fan on a wall where they can take maximum advantage of the sun. We feel that they are one of the most rewarding fruits to grow.

Plums & Gages … (Price: £12.00)
Plums and Gages are very closely related, so it is the differing flavours that differentiate between them. Plums don’t like a lot of attention – if pruning needs to be done, remove whole branches rather than nibbling away at them. Pruning, if needed in winter, should be carried out as late as possible during the winter, even into blossom time; cuts should always be painted to minimise the risk of Silver Leaf infection. Pruning is best undertaken in July.

Apricot … (Price: £12.00)
Traditionally, apricots have been grown on the south walls of fine old walled kitchen gardens, but since the demise of many of these lovely old gardens, many keen amateur gardeners have taken on the challenge of pleaching or fan-training an apricot on a warm wall. They are easy to grow, require good drainage and make a lovely focal point in a garden. We grow just the one variety, which has proved to be very popular.

The quince has become something of a forgotton fruit. With its large dark green leaves and scented flowers, it makes an attractive ornamental tree. It is said to be the queen of all orchards with its ripe fruit used for making jelly, the delecate flavour making a good accompaniment to meat dishes.
